A Happy Thanksgiving Message To All Of You!

I just wanted to take a minute to tell all of you how thankful I am to have such awesome readers!

Thanksgiving is one of those holidays we love since we get to spend time with family.  This year, my 2 youngest are with their dad for Thanksgiving, they got to skip this nasty snow and are in the Virgin Islands and Bahamas for this holiday.
They sailed on the NCL Epic last Saturday, and yesterday, my son Cody got to cross an item off his bucket list, he sent these pictures:

This one is a screen shot from a video he took with his phone.
I can't wait for them to get home so I can see ALL the pictures!!

I'm used to fixing enough food to feed three armies during the holidays, since everybody came to our house for the holidays. The past few years, since I moved to North Carolina, I haven't had the chance to do that since we go to other's homes for holiday dinners, even though I do help a little with the cooking there, and it's one of the things I miss most during the holidays.  This year we won't be doing our main Thanksgiving until Sunday due to various work schedules etc, but tomorrow we will fix up a small meal for 3 of us, just a turkey breast, some dressing, potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, baked beans, deviled eggs, green bean casserole, hot yeast rolls and a pumpkin pie.  I'll make a couple of Pumpkin Rolls for Sunday's dinner. Before I would make enough food so that everyone that wanted it could take some leftovers home, after all, that's half the fun of a holiday dinner, some of the leftovers for a day or two, and just in case someone unexpected showed up, which happened a time or two.
I would start cooking for the holidays a week in advance, I loved every second of it, well.. maybe not cleaning up the mess I made in the kitchen, but otherwise, I loved every second. lol
These days I feel kinda lost during the holidays as there's no preparation, just waiting for the day, it just feels weird to me! lol

I have so many things to be thankful for this year, so many blessings. At the beginning of the year, I put aside a jar with a pad of paper and a pen in it, and throughout the year, I've written little notes about what I'm thankful for as they happened. January 1st, I plan on opening up that jar and reading all the things that happened throughout 2013 that made an impression on my life. This year I've beat skin cancer, even though it wasn't a big deal, the just removed it and it was gone. I've managed to go on two cruises, one to the Caribbean and one to Alaska, that's my all time favorite way to take a vacation even though those were 'working' vacations,  I'm thankful for being able to build this blog, and for all the people that come here to read or enter one of the contests, and I'm thankful that the prizes are getting better and better every year, so that I can give back to my readers.

I'm really thankful for the group of bloggers I work with, they are the most amazing Moms and Dads and the best bloggers around!  I'm thankful that my Lupus has pretty much stayed in remission this year, with only a few rough patches through the year, and that overall, despite the issues, I'm doing pretty good. I'm thankful for Roger, his support and caring, and for his children that just mean the world to me. I'm thankful for my 4 children and my grandson and son in law, I have to say, I raised some dang good kids! Both older children have gotten their lives in order, they both work for the State of Colorado, and my daughter and son-in-law just purchased a nice home to raise their son in. I'm proud of them!

I would like to wish each and every one of you a very Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy your families and the time you get to spend with them. Time is a precious commodity.

What are your Thanksgiving Traditions?

One of our family Thanksgiving traditions is before the meal we all write one thing we're thankful for about the person sitting to the left of us and after the meal we write one thing we're thankful for about the person sitting to the right of us and we give them to that person to read!

we have many small traditions that if not carried out, our dinner just not seem the same. 1. must watch the parade, snuggled on couch eating donuts (very important to my youngest lol) 2. dinner must be served on grandmas Tiara dinnerware (important for my oldest) 3. There must be some form of a family game for ALL to play..cards, charades, etc...where we all giggle and laugh till our cheeks hurt..then DESERT! :)

Our traditions have fallen by the wayside since my dad passed away 9 years ago. We all used to go to my parents for a thanksgiving dinner. Our mom started going with our brother to his girlfriend's parents' home for Thanksgiving. My sister cooked for us ( my son and me) but she passed away last year on November 18. I'm nota good cook and am disabled so I can't stand up long enough to cook. This year we didn't do anything, but next year I hope to start some new traditions.
